Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another edition of health hack. This week, I want to talk to you about some theories of aging, because I have just completed my course all about aging and making 100, the new ad. And one of the books we use with this course is age later by Dr. Near bars life. And also, of course, the work and the research of my mentor, Dr. Steven Cabal. And so today, I want to share with you the disposable Soma theory of organisms, including humans. And it really makes a lot of sense if you just stop and think about it. And so I just want to share this with you here. And that is that our body has limited resources in the sense that it can't do everything all the time. And it will focus on maintenance, or it will focus on reproduction. And when things are going well, it can do a little bit of both however, if the body is depleted, because we are burning the candle at both ends, not fueling our body and in a way that gives it what it needs. It has to choose either reproduction, or maintenance. And then of course, the organism will always be set up to choose reproduction so that the organism can continue its line and create offspring, etc. Maintenance Mode would be repairing damage to ourselves, boosting the immune system, repairing the body structure and function etc. However, if there's limited resources, it can't do both and the disposable so my theory is that reproduction will always win. And so as a result, over time, if we aren't looking after our body in a way that our body needs to be looked after, and we don't, we aren't giving it enough resources, our maintenance mode is not going to be happening as regularly. And as such that is where we end up with the gradual accumulation of damage and deterioration in the body as time progresses. So that is the disposable Soma theory that I want to share with you. And the rest of this week. I will come back with and share another theory, the triage theory, and then get into talking about how stress impacts this in each and every single one of us. So come back, keep tuning in and learning about how our body ages and what you can do to change things
