Committed Impulse with Actor Josh Pais

Committed Impulse with Actor Josh Pais

When we don’t like something we give it a label - good or bad. This is especially true when it comes to how we’re feeling inside at heightened moments of stress.

The truth is that those emotions we often try to reject or run and hide from are just simply “energetic patterns”... and as today’s guest reminds us, if you can think of them as “creative impulses” being given off by our body then everything begins to open.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking to actor Josh Pais about letting go of labels, and how we can learn to stop suppressing our feelings and instead choose to fully connect with who we are and where we are in each moment.

In doing so, we can increase our tolerance for the unwanted feelings that arise and create deeper connections within ourselves, our creative work, our audience and those around us.

Josh Pais (pronounced pice) has been in over a hundred movies and TV shows. After going through a traditional Stanislavski-based actor training, Josh felt there was more. He went on a journey, studying with acting masters and directors from all over the world. He wanted to find a way to make spontaneity something he could count on - as opposed to something that might happen.

He started to workshop and develop ways of accessing that spontaneity and as a result of his explorations, universities and acting companies began asking him to teach. He declared repeatedly that he wasn’t a teacher, but the requests were ongoing and he finally gave it a shot.

Eventually, he founded “Committed Impulse” - a new, revolutionary, and fully comprehensive approach to acting that departs from traditional, heady, Stanislavski based methodologies. Committed Impulse has launched countless careers and reignited the joy of acting for thousands of actors. (But it’s also for speakers, writers, entrepreneurs and creatives of all kinds.)

Some of Josh’s recent acting projects include: Just finished shooting the lead role on a feature film in Ukraine. Shot the pilot DMZ, for HBO Max, directed by Ava DuVernay with Rosario Dawson. It just got ordered to series by HBO. Recent work includes: Recurring on Ray Donovan (as Stu Feldman), Playing the boss, Hoyt Vaughn in Joker. Motherless Brooklyn directed by Edward Norton, HBO’s The Plot Against America. As well as High Maintenance, Mrs. Fletcher, Recurring on Younger, SVU, upcoming: the feature, Two Against Nature with the Safdie Brothers. And he started his career playing Raphael in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
