It's OK To Feel Anger

It's OK To Feel Anger

Anger is something that most women are taught is a negative or bad emotion. Psychotherapist Bronwyn Schweigerdt provides enlightening insight into how anger evolves and how it can be used to heal and to move forward in life.

We explore the complexity of anger, especially in the context of divorce and life, and how it is often repressed and misunderstood. Bronwyn shares her personal journey, insights on societal perceptions of anger in men and women, and the importance of validating and expressing feelings. She also touches on the impact of suppressed anger on mental health and strategies for parents to help their children navigate their own anger. Bronwyn shares how to help kids feel comfortable in expressing anger and not feel it is their responsibility for the parent's emotions, something which is important during and after the divorce.

This is a great conversation about normalizing anger as a basic human emotion, and learning that we have the right to express anger as an emotion that we are experiencing. Bronwyn shares the power of sharing anger and learning how to verbalize and communication to release the anger and allow the healing to take place.

About the Guest:

Bronwyn Schweigerdt may be the most evocative psychotherapist you've ever heard. Instead of fixing peoples' messes, her goal is to elicit feelings people are most ashamed to have, such as hatred and anger. She knows that even though feelings are invisible, they don't evaporate, but store away in our bodies when they're processed. According to Bronwyn, these feelings haunt us and cause mental illness until we express them into words with someone who can hear and validate them. She especially loves playing midwife in this way, helping her clients – and now, her podcast listeners – externalize painful feelings once and for all. She has experienced success in helping people break free of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, even psychosis, by reconnecting them to their anger, and healing their relationship with anger, and with themselves. Bronwyn has a masters degree in counseling, and another in nutrition. She is a public speaker, author, and licensed psychotherapist.
