“Today, I decide.” These 3 words, according to Richard Kaufman, The Comeback Coach, are the most important in the English language.

After being abandoned by his father, left with a drug-addicted mother, and becoming an alcoholic by 13, Richard’s circumstances weren’t ideal. He became an addict, lived in crack houses, and was kicked out of the military once (nearly twice) before the events of 9/11 changed his trajectory. His incredible comeback includes 32 years of sobriety and 23 years of military service.

About the Guest:

As ‘The Comeback Coach’ and host of the popular veteran-focused podcasts Vertical Momentum and Success Your Why, Powers Your How, Richard Kaufman now helps those who struggle with depression as well as health, fitness, and addiction-related issues to discover true hope and a path forward. He also proudly shares about the #todayidecide campaign, focusing on assisting people with mental health struggles.

Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1986-1988 and the Army National Guard from 1991-2012, achieving the rank of Sergeant, before medically retiring after 23 years of service. In his civilian career, Richard worked with GNC (General Nutrition Center) for 30 years, progressing from salesperson to General Manager.

Over the years, Richard has overcome significant struggles with substance abuse, addiction, traumatic brain injury, and PTSD, and recently celebrated 32 years of sobriety.
