So we got curious, Ron real about what success is truly about?

Theresa Lambert:

Can you put it in a box?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

How can you get it?

Theresa Lambert:

Can people take it away? Or are you the one with the power?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Does it mean the same to all of us? Or are we the ones that create it?

Theresa Lambert:

Make sure you click the subscribe button on the App Store. Because each week we will drop a new episode to bust through the myths around success and dissect its true meaning.

Theresa Lambert:

We are back with another episode of dissecting success and fled I going to have a fun topic we're going to jam on about which is overnight success. No such interesting one, really, because most of us really celebrate rapid acceleration and one hit wonders, right? Like what do you think Blair?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Well, I think the only things that should happen overnight are dreams and oats. And you know, overnight success as possible. But it's not over one night, it's over many like it might have taken me like 900 Nights. So yes, overnight success is possible. But it has to be multiple nights. So overnight success, maybe

Theresa Lambert:

overnight success, you know, someone said once and I forgot who it was it took me 20 years to become an overnight success. And I think that's so true. Because, you know, this whole idea that, you know, one morning like overnight, you wake up and one morning you're like, oh, everything has fallen into place. And you know, here you are, right. I mean,

Blair Kaplan Venables:

really, that's that's just so like, overnight, success isn't a thing. So for those of you out there who are scrolling on Instagram, and you think oh, that person has it all or hey, they were nowhere and now they're here doing all this. They worked really hard. Everything they do is working towards what you see. And you don't see a lot of stuff like do we brag about our failures? Do we brag about the bad times? Heck, I got a winged eyeliner going and I watched probably hundreds of hours of tutorials. And they're not even even, but I did it. But because I've never posted it and you didn't see the back end and I posted it you might be like, Oh, overnight success. She mastered the with the wing. It's like no, no, no, I've practiced offline. And now you see it. So what what do people see? And what are you doing behind the scenes? And none of it is overnight success people?

Theresa Lambert:

Yeah, it's so true. You know, I found to being in the coaching world, specifically, that you're so inundated with messaging, right? Like, do these five steps, and you're going to be earning six figures in a week. And it's like, anyways, I have to laugh about it now, but you get drawn in, right. And then it becomes this whole idea that a few small things that you do, makes you become financially successful, right? Because we've already dove in, and that success really is so much broader than what the eye can see. But I see so many people getting, you know, pulled into this. It's like the whole like, no golden shiny object syndrome. Right? Like, it's out there.

Blair Kaplan Venables:

And we're like, oh, yeah,

Theresa Lambert:

I want it and I want it fast. But you're so right, like, you know, the times when we grind to times when we're like pick ourselves back up off the floor, because we launched something and it didn't work, or we you know, put something out there and we were super pumped about it. And everyone else is like

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Yeah, and I also think like what, what does overnight success even mean? Like in this age of social media where you make a post and it goes viral? That could be like short term fix like overnight success, but what does overnight success even mean? Like? What what what happened before you went to bed that when you wake up, it's different? What is that, you know, like a magic sleeping pill and, you know, a big beanstalk grew.

Theresa Lambert:

Yeah, it's so funny because to me definitely. I feel like with everything we've been talking about on this podcast as well right with success really coming down to be so personal like I used and to be more of a feeling of, you know, there were people talking about fulfilment, about happiness about being able to really, you know, like, just do what they want to do right and show upward to have drugs to be spiritually connected. Like, we've had so many great, you know, insights on what success means to all these different people, including ourselves. That to me, it's almost like, how could we just wake up like that?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Or are we waking up every day? Slightly or significantly closer to what we achieve to be success? So technically, overnight, success isn't wrong, because it's not really this like destination is this ongoing thing?

Theresa Lambert:

Totally. Like, you are continuously becoming more successful overnight, every single night. I do like that. I mean, think about that. Right? Like, how many nights have you been alive?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

I'm bad at math. Many.

Theresa Lambert:

I couldn't tell you. But like, for a lot of nights, I mean, I'm not gonna get

Blair Kaplan Venables:

all overnight successes.

Theresa Lambert:

Well, why not?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

I guess it's the benchmark of what is success. But if we're always working on being better, and we go to bed and wake up, you know, even a milah meter, millisecond, a little a smidge better. That counts is overnight success.

Theresa Lambert:

I would say so especially if we're, you know, choosing to define success for ourselves. And if we know what success means to us, and every day, we take micro steps, and we take the overnight to integrate our micro steps, then the next day, theoretically, by my own definition, that would mean that we are becoming more successful. So overnight, our success grows. So maybe it's not overnight success. But success grows overnight

Blair Kaplan Venables:

success overnight. success overnight. Yeah. Maybe we're just coming up with a whole new term here for the world to use.

Theresa Lambert:

Maybe we I like this, actually. Because when you think about it, too, right? How cool is that? Like, if you look at your life, and if you look at all of your achievements throughout the day, throughout the US throughout the mountains, and then imagine that every night, that success gets to stick a little bit more like it. And a little bit more. It's like, cool. I'm digging this. Like that's a good

Blair Kaplan Venables:

mantra. Yeah, like planting a seed and like a little bit of water, a little bit of sun, a little bit of rain, a little bit of cat. I just get cats in my garden, a little bit more water, some weeding, you're rolling this beautiful plant this beautiful thing called success. I think it's an interesting concept, Theresa, success overnight. But I also like, I mean, have we talked about this is success, the journey or the destination? And what is the destination because someone like me, who sets goals and achieves them like I want to write a book, I wrote a book now what's next? Like, that was a blip on my radar in the grand scheme of things. Because I have all these other things I want to achieve. And writing a book is a huge accomplishment. We both did it. Kudos to both of us. And I want to acknowledge that. But like, that wasn't my destination, that was like a pit stop on the side of the highway. So Success is a journey. So overnight success is just like the overnight train from you know, Paris to Amsterdam.

Theresa Lambert:

Well, that is so funny, because also, you know, let's look at that too, right? In relation to all books, right, like overnight success. One morning, we woke up, we launched our books, and we both became number one bestsellers. Like, you could consider that in the theory of the world, overnight success. But we didn't write that book in a night. Just, you know, go from our brains magically into a book and then published itself with all the things that needed to happen before then. Right?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Maybe it should be over life success.

Theresa Lambert:

Over life success. Well, that's good, too. Yeah, like what you just said, with, you know, success being the journey. I mean, that has been something that for me, has been so huge that success. It's almost a it's almost a state of mind. Right? Like I am successful, I am successful, I'm being successful. And then every day that gets to, you know, take different shapes and forms, but it's really become more about a state of being and the journey than the destination because like you I'm like set a goal and knock it off, set a goal and knock it off. And I did that for so long. But you know, because I got to the top of one of my goals, which was finding a luxury hotel, and I did it and I got to the two happened. I was like, Oh, well hang on a second. Is that really yet? So I feel like when we put everything on goals, you know, working towards our overnight success story. We get there. And then we're like, Well, what now?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

So I think maybe we're on a on the right path to success here. I think success isn't a destination, there's no such thing as a place called success. It's literally the journey. It's the path. It's the way it's the way in which we go towards each thing we're trying to, you know, strive for and achieve. And sometimes we can get close to that goal. Go to bed wake up. And overnight, the path to success took us to that destination that truckstop per se, on success, highway 101.

Theresa Lambert:

Why have you beautiful Mountain Lodge?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Yeah, or a beautiful Mountain Lodge way better than a truckstop? Except for some really nice truckstops out there. I've experienced a couple. But I think we're diving into something really important here, Theresa. Success isn't this moment. It is the string between the moments.

Theresa Lambert:

The space in between the space

Blair Kaplan Venables:

between, you know that song?

Theresa Lambert:

I do. I was just thinking about that. But I'm a terrible singer. But you know, it's so true. Because also when success becomes the space in between, and not the destination. And there's just merely beautiful destinations along the way. Right, like mountain lodges or truck stops. There isn't beautiful truck stops out there. Or maybe a deserted island, I don't know in the tropics of where I could totally go there right now. But if it's about the journey, if it's about the space in between, then the longevity off, the feeling of success gets to exist with us, from birth to death, really, right. Like, it's like this. It comes from a cycle. It's kind of philosophical and deep, but I like

Blair Kaplan Venables:

it. Yeah, we are from the moment we enter this planet. As physical beings, we are on this path to success. And we're on this path and this journey until the day we physically leave this planet. And we have all these moments along the way that we stop. And whether we recognize those moments as moments along the highway to success or the the successful highway or however we call it. You know, it's up to us to determine if those are pivotal moments that are going to help shape us in those spaces between those moments.

Theresa Lambert:

Totally. And you know, the more we have these conversations without beautiful gifts, and more, we're talking about success in general, the more you realize that VD, it's not attached to a thing, or an outcome or something that can be measurable in this, you know, well, like physically measurable, it's not the amount of money in your bank account. It's not about how big your house is, right? Like it's not about the job title that you hold. It's really about an experience at a very deep level. And so success means in that case, it's also accessible to every single soul on this planet.

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Success is accessible. That's like a tongue twister everybody now success is accessible. And that's true. Because you get to control what that means. And no one can take that away from you, and no one can give it to you. It's you who is in control. I like it. So going back to the beginning of the conversation, can success happen overnight?

Theresa Lambert:

I think something that's measurable by the world can come to life overnight. You know, you could win a lottery, and to someone that would be ultimate success, right? Like, and then death experience unfolding from that might change their life. Right. And they could say that was an overnight success. I woke up and I was rich, right? Like I woke up winning $80 million. I mean, hello. Like that's, you know, that literally would happen overnight, right? Because you put a lottery ticket in your bigger numbers, they draw boom.

Blair Kaplan Venables:

So, successes happen can't happen overnight. But it's more or less a lifelong journey.

Theresa Lambert:

Yeah, it's the measurable outcome on your journey that can happen overnight, like a goal. Right? Like I want to win a lottery. I want to become a best selling author offer author.

Blair Kaplan Venables:

I want to be an author in the water. Otter underwater, boom,

Theresa Lambert:

right so that programs boom like it can happen. But I think there's still all the steps that we have taken leading up to the point and I don't think that We should diminish or minimize the importance of those steps and the importance of the journey. You know, even the lottery ticket, how many lottery tickets has that person bought? Right? A lifetime, right? Like, because let's face it, right? Like, I don't know, I mean, maybe someone's out there. And if you're listening, hello, please message us as sponsor SME one lottery ticket, and you won a big jackpot, then we want to know you, but I mean, really, like, you know, the lottery tickets like think up could be 1000s over a lifetime of awesome people 1000s of lottery tickets. So

Blair Kaplan Venables:

let's talk about some things that also can happen overnight, because I think some people still need to wrap their heads around their own definition of success. So to wrap up this conversation, let's just leave on a lighter note. What happens overnight. My favorite thing that happens overnight is those wild dreams I have Holy smokes. My imagination runs wild I wake up inspired or exhausted depending on what happens. Heck, the other day, my dream was so vivid that I woke up and started googling what it meant. But overnight dreams happen. Your body rests. overnight oats. I've just dove into that world overnight oats overnight.

Theresa Lambert:

Yeah, yeah. Oh, it's getting ready for you to have a VDMA practice. Yeah, you know, I think that overnight, and you know, you brought up dreams. But I think so many important things happening that are about integration, right? Like everything we've learned throughout the day, anything we've absorbed observed throughout the day, anything that we did, it has time to settle. And our brain has time to sort of, you know, make sense of it all. And like, I mean, there's this beautiful work that's being done overnight. And sometimes we dream and sometimes we don't. I don't always dream. Sometimes I remember my dreams, sometimes I don't. But somehow, next day, often also a times in the mornings where I come up with good ideas. So obviously, something's percolated overnight. Right. And, or an idea, right, like, I've been thinking about something and then it's like, boom, there it is. And I would consider that a success. Like the second something comes in. I'm like, boom, love it. Yes. Right. It gives me that sense of accomplishment or like, wow, like,

Blair Kaplan Venables:

I came up with this. And I think you just said something that's really important, like, you know, overnight is when everything that happened throughout the day starts to percolate and absorb and become part of your being and your fibers. And I'm like that to Teresa, I have the best ideas in the morning, I work the best. I'm the most creative. That's when I spend time writing I have time blocked in the morning for creative writing. And I think that overnight, that everything that I've learned from the previous day and so forth, or the whatever the reverse of so forth is what is the reverse is so forth. Forth. So anyways, you know, it all percolates overnight and marinates. And I wake up inspired. And I would say that is a success. So it's interesting because I came into this conversation with nope, success does not happen overnight. But, but it does, because you're on this journey of success your entire life.

Theresa Lambert:

Well, we've completely redefined what overnight success means. Exactly. So night, rather than overnight success. So we

Blair Kaplan Venables:

need to write the dictionaries come like Merriam Webster, we got to we got to edit your definition there. Alright, but I

Theresa Lambert:

think also how much friendly is that? success overnight? How much friendly is the thought that we get to, you know, compound our success each night over an entire lifetime? Rather than aspiring to needing to be the overnight success story? You know what I mean? Like, I mean, how much pressure? I just feel like so much pressure just came off. I'm like, Oh, right. Because there's still a part of me, right? That's like, oh, yeah, like, how cool would it be right? Like to be just overnight success, like, you know, have like a hit single worst thing in the world?

Blair Kaplan Venables:

Oh, my gosh, that's funny. Well, it's like, um, you know, this comedian, she had a video go viral on Instagram. And I didn't know who she was. But she went viral. A bunch of people sent me her video, and then a bunch of celebrities were posting it. And to the outside, she became an overnight success. But really, she's been a comedian and an actress for years working on stuff. And it was that one moment that that you know, that one video that one moment that someone picked it up that more people saw it, and the virality happened. And so that specific incident was overnight success, but she's been working at this for years.

Theresa Lambert:

Yeah, see, I think there's pivotal moments, right. And that was a pivotal moment for her and her life. But I think that you know, when we talk about entrepreneurship or passions or creation, right, like artists, anything really Like, there is that willingness to continue to keep going and keep trying, right? Like, this is a whole other conversation that now opens up. But really, you know, every time something works or doesn't work, right, you got to ask yourself, Am I willing to continue to keep going? Am I continued to be willing to, you know, stay committed to my progress, like I every day one of the mantras that I have is that I say to myself is keep the faith and continue with the to like, continue to focus on your progress. Keep the faith and continue to focus on your progress. Just focus on the progress. Definitely progress. Trump's perfection, for sure. Tongue tied. Yeah. So progress comes perfection. How can I say those being

Blair Kaplan Venables:

successful for perfection guys, and you know, I think this is a good, good place to wrap up with a tongue twister, just kidding. You know, success overnight is possible. Because we're all on that path. We're all on that journey. We go about our day. We go to sleep. Our lessons become part of us and we wake up and we're that much closer to achieving our goals. Humbly. Thank you

Theresa Lambert:

overnight success is really overnight.
