Too many of us have accepted the stress and misery that comes with our careers. If you’re unhappy in your professional life, but feel like you need to stick it out because you think “This is what it feels like to be successful,” this episode is for you. Our guest, HR and career strategist Laurel Rutledge, is on a mission to help more women get out of career misery and into a career path aligned with their values and skills. In this empowering episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why we stay in jobs that are making us miserable
  • How saying yes to new opportunities can help us find the path to where we really want to go professionally
  • How to improve our experience when we feel stuck in a job that is not serving us well

About the Guest:

With nearly 30 years of domestic and global, Laurel speaks the language of organizations. She uses her specialized expertise in risk management, consulting and human resources to guide individual clients through a customized process to address the challenges they are facing while building their teams.

Laurel created LaurelRutledge.com, The Rutledge Perspective Podcast and The ReSource after nearly 30 years in a corporate career. She has built functions, led turnarounds and led the HR/audit function of M&A activities. Being data-driven as well as people focused, Laurel knows how to work with leaders ensure that all aspects of a decision are brought forward and those in decision-making positions are accountable for the decisions that are made. It’s not about who is right, but about what is the best decision to be made with the greatest return and the least amount of negative people impact.

In starting her own business, Laurel recognized the frustration and confusion happening when small business owners were starting to hire teams. All of a sudden, the focus moved from their business “zone of genius” to the unknown of human resources management. “I wanted to alleviate the pain and frustration of these small business owners – especially women in business” To help them minimize the risk of costly fines and penalties by learning to “LEAD with their HEART, but ACT with their HEAD.”

About the Host:

Janice Scholl has spent her entire career talking about money and business. Through her time as a commercial banker, consultant and mentor to budding entrepreneurs, she helped clients create solid business and financial strategies to help propel their business to success. While working with aspiring female entrepreneurs, Janice noticed that the same four themes kept repeating:

  • Many women are uncomfortable with finance, both in their business and in their personal life.
  • Women want access to more women mentors and advisors.
  • Women often start businesses because they feel the corporate world doesn’t fit their lifestyle. Few are motivated by purely financial reasons.
  • Mothers didn’t want money to drive their family decisions.

From these themes The Money, Career, & Motherhood Podcast was born. Now Janice spends her time helping mothers gain confidence and understanding about money, career, and business topics as they relate to motherhood and family – the way many women actually think about money. Janice loves helping mothers implement business and financial strategies within their families to help each family member thrive.
