Speaker:

Welcome, and happy new year.

Speaker:

This is the first episode of the Lift As You Climb Podcast, recorded in 2022.

Speaker:

And this is a special tribute episode to Betty White.

Speaker:

I am so grateful that we have had 99 years of.

Speaker:

you...

Speaker:

Almost a hundred...

Speaker:

Leading the way, blazing trails, setting examples, changing beliefs and

Speaker:

attitudes, and lifting as you climbed.

Speaker:

I cannot think of any single woman that I know in my lifetime, in my current

Speaker:

lifetime, that has had so much impact.

Speaker:

Done so, with style, panashe, humor and certainly lasting legacy impact.

Speaker:

Thank you, Betty White.

Speaker:

Thank you for being the entertainer, the business woman, the mentor.

Speaker:

The forest ranger, the human rights and animal rights activist.

Speaker:

Thank you for being at the top of, the pinnacle of success in an industry, the

Speaker:

entertainment industry that you defied...

Speaker:

The standards of age, youth and beauty.

Speaker:

You made new standards.

Speaker:

You are beautiful.

Speaker:

And witty.

Speaker:

And so, so, so irreverent and I am grateful to you, for all of that.

Speaker:

I started out thinking how much you've been a part of my life, even

Speaker:

though I was born 32 years after you.

Speaker:

And yet you seem to have always been there, in so many different capacities.

Speaker:

And so I looked at your Wikipedia page...

Speaker:

Turns out it's much more than a page.

Speaker:

It's like an entire volume, because there's so much to say about

Speaker:

what you did in your lifetime.

Speaker:

In fact, there were 134 references alone at this point.

Speaker:

You have been honored and awarded and applauded, but you were also

Speaker:

challenged and put down and held back at different times in your

Speaker:

life, but that never stopped you.

Speaker:

Betty White, you kept on climbing...

Speaker:

And while you did so, you lifted, you mentored, and cheerleaded, and

Speaker:

donated and established new ways and new standards in so many areas.

Speaker:

Not only were you a consummate entertainer, comedian, singer dancer,

Speaker:

actress, model, director, producer.

Speaker:

Everything!

Speaker:

And let's mention host of Saturday Night Live...

Speaker:

The oldest living person on record at 88, to be the host of that show.

Speaker:

It's what you have done in many, many areas...

Speaker:

That will live long after you...

Speaker:

A continuing legacy and testament to who you were.

Speaker:

And who we all should aspire to be more of.

Speaker:

I want to thank you.

Speaker:

Thank you, Betty, for lifting our spirits, lifting our eyes up to

Speaker:

see when things were not right...

Speaker:

To racial injustice, to animal mistreatment, to age-ism and sexism...

Speaker:

That was wrong.

Speaker:

That you said, hell no to...

Speaker:

And overcame all of those things.

Speaker:

You paved the way for so many behind you.

Speaker:

You constantly reinvented yourself.

Speaker:

You were, and always will be a Renegade that I aspire to be more of.

Speaker:

I want to say thank you again, Betty, and to challenge all of the

Speaker:

listeners, to be more like Betty.

Speaker:

To live with a sense of humor, a sense of fairness, a sense of generosity.

Speaker:

To tirelessly pursue living and loving your life to the max.
