Enthusiasm is power, and any speech can be made more powerful if presented with enthusiasm and gusto! Too often speakers forget that they are performers as well as informers. Enthusiasm is key to achieving speaking success with every speech. Here is how to do it:
- Share your passion – if you are not passionate about your topic, no one else will be
- Move your body – add more body language
- Use descriptive words and word pictures, for example: say home instead of house
- Don’t be on a constant high or over-enthusiastic – it will feel fake
- No notes or PowerPoint – that’s right! Do not depend on notes or you will fail
- Use props – whether you are speaking in the virtual world or in-person, props are fun to use
- Tell stories – become a master storyteller and captivate your audience
- Practice, practice, practice – rehearse 1 hour for every 2 minutes of speech
- Take a listen and add more to every speech!
