Hey, Amplifiers, Welcome back to another episode
Troy Lacher:of the Podcast Playbook. Let me ask you a question. Do you ever
Troy Lacher:feel that you've done all this work to publish a podcast and
Troy Lacher:then crickets, you've prepped the episode, you've recorded,
Troy Lacher:you've edited, you've uploaded it, you've posted on social
Troy Lacher:media, maybe a shout out once, and then what you move on to the
Troy Lacher:next one. But here's the thing, publishing your episode
Troy Lacher:shouldn't be the end of the process, but the beginning the
Troy Lacher:launch pad. If you're not pairing every episode with an
Troy Lacher:email campaign, you're leaving a ton of connection, engagement
Troy Lacher:and conversions on the table. So today we're talking about one of
Troy Lacher:the most underrated tools in your podcast promotional
Troy Lacher:toolkit, and that's your email marketing, not just why it
Troy Lacher:matters, but exactly how to use it to turn those passive
Troy Lacher:listeners into raving fans and hopefully clients. So let's go
Troy Lacher:through the process to make it both simple and scalable.
Troy Lacher:All right, big picture, we hear lots of people talking about
Troy Lacher:social algorithms, SEO tricks going viral on whatever social
Troy Lacher:media platform that you're using. But guess what still
Troy Lacher:delivers the highest return of investment that's your emails.
Troy Lacher:According to litmus software, email returns an average of $36
Troy Lacher:for every dollar spent. That's going to be anything with
Troy Lacher:regards to your social media, your paid ads, relying on SEO
Troy Lacher:everything. So unlike social platforms that change the rules
Troy Lacher:every three to four months, and you have to stay on top of it.
Troy Lacher:You own your email list. It is the direct access to people who
Troy Lacher:actually want to hear from you. Think about it, they opted in.
Troy Lacher:They want to hear your message. And if you show up in their
Troy Lacher:inbox regularly, like every time your podcast drops, they start
Troy Lacher:to trust you. They get to know like and trust you. They start
Troy Lacher:to expect you, and that trust, that's what turns listeners into
Troy Lacher:clients.
Troy Lacher:So what's the magic? Here's what a simple, well written email
Troy Lacher:does for every new episode. One. It drives immediate traffic
Troy Lacher:right when your episode drops. It builds consistency. People
Troy Lacher:see you showing up again and again. It reinforces that you're
Troy Lacher:the thought leader, because you're not just talking, you're
Troy Lacher:guiding them through. It creates action, whether it be grabbing
Troy Lacher:your lead magnet, sharing your show, booking a call, download,
Troy Lacher:whatever it is, your ability to get them to take action without
Troy Lacher:email, your podcast is just passive with it. It becomes a
Troy Lacher:content engine that drives momentum week after week.
Troy Lacher:Now, don't get me wrong, social media still has its place,
Troy Lacher:especially when it comes to discoverability, but here's what
Troy Lacher:most podcasters miss, email and social media work better when
Troy Lacher:they work together. Use your episode email as a base, then
Troy Lacher:repurpose it. You can make a short, real script, a carousel
Troy Lacher:post that shows your key takeaways, a quote card from
Troy Lacher:your guest, or even from yourself, of something that was
Troy Lacher:important, that was said to give them something to think about, a
Troy Lacher:LinkedIn post asking your audience the same question you
Troy Lacher:posed in the episode and flip it around too. Use your social to
Troy Lacher:drive people into your email list. Share behind the scenes of
Troy Lacher:your episode. Offer a bonus for subscribers. Ask people to
Troy Lacher:direct message you the word episode and send them the link
Troy Lacher:in the freebie. Make it all interactive. Make them interact
Troy Lacher:with you, so that they become part of your world. This isn't
Troy Lacher:an either or, it's a both, and email is for depth, social is
Troy Lacher:for reach. All right, so let's talk about the layout of the
Troy Lacher:email itself.
Troy Lacher:Let's get tactical. Here's what your email should include every
Troy Lacher:single time. So first, of course, a killer subject line.
Troy Lacher:This is your hook. This is your first impression, so you need to
Troy Lacher:make it count. Okay? A short, personal intro. Think one to two
Troy Lacher:sentences that are going to help them connect with the
Troy Lacher:information that's going to be shared. The value of the
Troy Lacher:episode. This is where you can use bullet points from your show
Troy Lacher:notes. Tell them what they'll get out of this episode, and
Troy Lacher:again, include a clear CTA. Listen now, book a call, grab
Troy Lacher:your download whatever it is, have it go clickable links and
Troy Lacher:an image. So this is really important. You don't just want
Troy Lacher:to send a blank, white page to you through your email address
Troy Lacher:says, give them an image. Give them something to draw upon. It
Troy Lacher:could be your cover art from the episode that you did. It could
Troy Lacher:be a shot of you behind the scenes, whatever it takes make
Troy Lacher:it easy and visually appealing. Okay, remember, you're not
Troy Lacher:writing a novel in these emails. You're just giving them enough
Troy Lacher:to click Connect and hopefully convert. So when do you send
Troy Lacher:your emails? Well, of course, the same day your episode drops.
Troy Lacher:You know that's number one. That is what you're going to want to
Troy Lacher:do. Then you should be able to have the ability to track your
Troy Lacher:episodes who didn't open it up, that from that first, you know,
Troy Lacher:two to three days, go back, resend it, or, even better, do a
Troy Lacher:copy and paste, give it a new title, subject line, so that
Troy Lacher:maybe that will engage. It's all like A B testing, you never know
Troy Lacher:what's going to work, what's going to catch people's eyes, so
Troy Lacher:change it up and resend it. Don't be afraid to follow up.
Troy Lacher:Most of us need more than one nudge to take action. And what
Troy Lacher:is it? The person needs to hear something seven times before
Troy Lacher:they take action. So you and your message deserve to be
Troy Lacher:heard, so follow up and get it out there. Another thing that
Troy Lacher:you can do is inside your email signatures that you send out on
Troy Lacher:your regular emails, put the link to your latest podcast
Troy Lacher:episode in there. This becomes evergreen as a way to promote
Troy Lacher:your episodes. People just naturally see it. So it's just
Troy Lacher:another way to make sure that people know that you're putting
Troy Lacher:on a podcast and where they can listen to hear more about what
Troy Lacher:you have to say.
Troy Lacher:So want to take it up a notch, go the next level. So other
Troy Lacher:things that you can do is segment your list, send bonus
Troy Lacher:content to those super fans, those people that are
Troy Lacher:interacting with you. Do little things for them, hopefully you
Troy Lacher:get them to share what you're doing and create more super
Troy Lacher:fans. Include your lead magnet in every episode email. So don't
Troy Lacher:forget that you every episode should have a CTA, whether it's
Troy Lacher:in the episode itself or it's in your outro, make sure you have
Troy Lacher:your CTA in there. So the best way for connection and to boost
Troy Lacher:emotion is through your use of storytelling. So don't let it
Troy Lacher:just be straight direction. Give them a little sample, a behind
Troy Lacher:the scenes. These are the kind of systems that keep your
Troy Lacher:podcast working, even when you're not all right, so here's
Troy Lacher:your takeaway, don't let your podcast go quiet after you hit
Troy Lacher:publish.
Troy Lacher:Email campaigns aren't just a nice to have. They are a must.
Troy Lacher:They're your secret weapon to growth. They bring in the
Troy Lacher:audience, build trust and move people to action. So if you're
