How to Use Your Podcast as a Living Resume | PP021

How to Use Your Podcast as a Living Resume | PP021

Want authority that beats a resume? We show how a podcast becomes a living resume that grows with us, proves how we think, and lets people feel our voice and values in real time. A static one-sheet lists titles; our show demonstrates judgment, problem-solving, and trust.

We break down a simple plan to turn episodes into proof: define the authority we want to be known for, demonstrate it in every recording, publish consistently, distribute where our audience already is, and document the opportunities that follow. When we treat our podcast like proof, not just content, it positions us long after release, opening doors a resume never could.

Discover:

  • How to turn your show into a “living resume” that builds trust without pitching.
  • A simple authority plan: define, demonstrate, deliver, distribute, document.
  • How voice, tone, and stories create faster credibility than bullet points.
  • Ways to repurpose episodes to win opportunities and partnerships.
  • Practical follow-ups that position you after every call or meeting.

Troy Lacher:

Hey, Amplifiers, welcome back to the Podcast

Troy Lacher:

Playbook. I'm Troy, your podcast production lead a coach here at AmplifYou.

Troy Lacher:

Today, I want to talk to you about something that might

Troy Lacher:

change the way you think about building authority, and that is

Troy Lacher:

why your podcast works better than a resume. We all have our

Troy Lacher:

credentials on our website, our media page, or we may even have

Troy Lacher:

a one sheet that we send out. Think about it. That's just a

Troy Lacher:

list of titles and dates. It's like a highlight reel of what

Troy Lacher:

you've already done. But you know what? As important as that

Troy Lacher:

is, it doesn't actually show who you are. It doesn't give people

Troy Lacher:

a sense of how you think, how you solve problems, and what

Troy Lacher:

it's like to work with you. They're just static. They start

Troy Lacher:

aging the minute you print them, upload them or publish them.

Troy Lacher:

Now compare that to your podcast. Your podcast is alive.

Troy Lacher:

It grows with you. Every episode becomes a snapshot of your

Troy Lacher:

authority, your perspective and your voice. When someone presses

Troy Lacher:

play, they don't see credentials on paper. They experience you in

Troy Lacher:

action, and that's why a podcast is a more powerful authority

Troy Lacher:

builder than any resume ever could be.

Troy Lacher:

Here's something I've seen firsthand. We had two teenage

Troy Lacher:

clients of ours use their podcast as part of their college

Troy Lacher:

application, instead of just turning in their transcripts and

Troy Lacher:

essays, they showed the admissions committee something

Troy Lacher:

different. They had a body of work that proved their

Troy Lacher:

leadership, their creativity and the ability to build a community

Troy Lacher:

that made them unforgettable. And think about it, if it worked

Troy Lacher:

for them, imagine the impact it can have for entrepreneurs and

Troy Lacher:

leaders like you who are looking to build trust with potential

Troy Lacher:

clients or partners, because that's the credibility gap,

Troy Lacher:

right there.

Troy Lacher:

A resume tells people where you've been, a podcast shows

Troy Lacher:

them where you're going, and let's talk about your voice for

Troy Lacher:

a second. Authority isn't just about what you know. It's about

Troy Lacher:

whether people trust you. And nothing builds trust faster than

Troy Lacher:

hearing someone's voice the way you pause, the energy in your

Troy Lacher:

tone, the little stories you tell, those moments connect on a

Troy Lacher:

level that no bullet point on a resume ever could. That

Troy Lacher:

connection is also what shifts you from pitching to

Troy Lacher:

positioning. We've talked about this back in episode 18, how

Troy Lacher:

most people don't want to be pitched to anymore. They don't

Troy Lacher:

want to feel sold to, but they do want value. They want proof,

Troy Lacher:

and your podcast gives them that. Instead of saying here's

Troy Lacher:

why you should hire me, you're showing them. Here's how I

Troy Lacher:

think, here's how I solve problems, here's the kind of

Troy Lacher:

value I bring over time. You don't even need to say you're an

Troy Lacher:

authority. They already know it.

Troy Lacher:

And here's the beauty your podcast keeps working for you.

Troy Lacher:

You long after you publish, a listener might stumble on your

Troy Lacher:

show six months from now, binge five of your past episodes and

Troy Lacher:

walk away with a complete picture of your authority that's

Troy Lacher:

a living resume, that's your expertise captured and always available.

Troy Lacher:

Let me give you another example. One of our clients was

Troy Lacher:

approached by a company doing research for a grant. This host

Troy Lacher:

wasn't looking to pitch themselves. They weren't

Troy Lacher:

applying for anything. Someone from the company had simply

Troy Lacher:

heard her podcast. They realized she was the expert voice they

Troy Lacher:

needed and invited her to be part of the project. That

Troy Lacher:

opportunity never would have come from a paper resume. It

Troy Lacher:

happened because her podcast positioned her as the authority

Troy Lacher:

in her space. So let's talk quickly about how to do that for

Troy Lacher:

yourself.

Troy Lacher:

First off, define your authority. Be very clear who you

Troy Lacher:

are, who you serve and what you stand for. Vagueness doesn't

Troy Lacher:

build expertise. Second, you've got to demonstrate it in every

Troy Lacher:

episode. Don't just talk show how you solve problems. That's

Troy Lacher:

your proof in action. Third, deliver consistently. Each

Troy Lacher:

release adds another line to your living. Resume, your

Troy Lacher:

authority grows with your reliability. Fourth, distribute

Troy Lacher:

strategically. Authority doesn't spread if no one hears it. So

Troy Lacher:

meet your audience where they are, and finally, document the

Troy Lacher:

proof. Pay attention to the opportunities that come because

Troy Lacher:

of your podcast. Now, one last thing I want to leave you with,

Troy Lacher:

recording an episode is just the start. If you want your podcast

Troy Lacher:

to act like a resume, put it to work, share your episodes on

Troy Lacher:

social media like LinkedIn, send one as a follow up after a call,

Troy Lacher:

create a playlist around a theme and send it to a potential

Troy Lacher:

partner. When you start treating your podcast like proof of

Troy Lacher:

authority instead of just content, it opens doors that one

Troy Lacher:

sheets never could.

Troy Lacher:

So here's your reflection for today. Ask yourself if somebody

Troy Lacher:

was listening to my podcast in my last five episodes, what

Troy Lacher:

story would they walk away with about me? Does it reflect the

Troy Lacher:

authority, the trust and the opportunities I want to attract,

Troy Lacher:

because remember, your podcast is your resume, and there's

Troy Lacher:

nothing stronger until next week. Happy Podcasting.
