Is It Always Wrong to Be a People Pleaser?

Is It Always Wrong to Be a People Pleaser?

Asked recently if it is always wrong to be a People Pleaser – I realized that the question provides an opportunity to dive deep. In this episode, I explore motivation, how People Pleasing isn’t who we are, and the self-judgment of the inner critic.

The motivation behind People Pleasing action is important. We can either be seeking acceptance or come from a place that resonates with the core of who we are. Only we can determine if we are People Pleasing – and that sometimes takes some space for self-reflection.

People Pleasing is something that occurs because we are stuck in a place. It is something we do because of a scaffolding we’ve constructed down the People Pleasing Rabbit Hole that makes us believe People Pleasing is necessary. Shifting perspective allows us to release ownership of People Pleasing as a part of who we are.

Sometimes, when we see that we are People Pleasing, we allow our Inner Critic to show up. And that is when we judge ourselves. This is when it is so important that we take to radical self-love and self-acceptance. Acceptance opens the door for different choices today, tomorrow, or down the road.
